Which test should you take?

Take IELTS Academic to:

• study at an undergraduate level or postgraduate level anywhere in the world

• apply for Student Route visa (Tier 4) at a university that is a Student route (Tier

4) Sponsor in the UK

• work in an English-speaking country for a professional organisation.

You can take your IELTS test on paper or on a computer in our official test centres.

Test format

IELTS has four sections- Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking

Test time

The Listening, Reading and Writing tests take 2 hours 40 minutes and are completed

on the same day. The Speaking test takes between 11-14 minutes and can be

completed up to a week before or after the other tests.

Required Identification Documents

On the day of the test, test takers must present their original, valid and signed passport;

or National ID for identification purposes only. Please note that you will not be allowed

to enter the exam hall without the original ID that you used during your registration.

Test takers under the age of 18 will have to provide the written consent by a parent or

guardian in order to apply for a test place. Please note that IELTS is not recommended

for test takers under the age of 16.
